rural fibre is coming

CHECK TO SEE IF YOU'RE WITHIN COVERAGE

THE TECHNOLOGY

Rural fibre is a type of internet connection that uses fiber-optic cables to transmit data.

These cables are made from thin strands of glass or plastic, known as optical fibers, which use light to carry information.

This technology represents a significant advancement over traditional copper-based connections like DSL or cable, offering higher speeds, greater bandwidth, and more reliable service over longer distances.

WHERE IS RURAL FIBRE AVAILABLE?

Any household within an orange boundary here is ready to be installed. Hover over the blue location dots for more detail on what road we’re building on.

If we could build Rural Fibre everywhere in Gordonton, we would. Unfortunately, we can only lay cables so far. If you are outside of the boundary, you can always check out our other rural internet service, fixed wireless.

WHY RURAL FIBRE?

warranty

Reliable

Because it’s built under the ground, and connect straight from a cable to your home (to what we call an ONT) you can rest assured that there’s little to no interference.

bandwidth

Fast

Speeds from 200/200Mbps mean you can stream, video call, game and work from home with ease.

investment

An Asset

Fibre is in demand. Homes deemed “rural” are often overlooked and providers choose to build fibre into high density areas. By adding fibre to your home in a low-density area, you’re essentially increasing the value of it.

latency

Low Latency

A gamers dream. Low latency and speedy internet mean your online gaming is smooth, responsive, and totally immersive. Say goodbye to lag spoiling your game and hello to being the player to beat.

Yes, high demand services like streaming and gaming require good speed, ping time and data allowance. Lightwire Rural Fibre provides all of these.

Chorus is intending to disestablish the legacy copper network. When and how this will happen in Gordonton is yet to be determined.

It is the tenant’s responsibility to discuss this with a property owner and gain approval.

Yes, and you can bring your current phone number with you.

Yes, please get in touch and we will discuss timings and when things can be installed.

Maybe. We are always looking to increase coverage however this will need to be done in a feasible way.

Lightwire Rural Fibre is a private network, there is no government funding.

Lightwire has seen the need for better communications in Gordonton and has decided to invest in the community.

While the Rural Fibre can provide high speeds to a property, the internal network is a different area. Wi-Fi signals can be degraded as they pass through walls. We offer a Whole Home Wi-Fi to resolve this problem.

As above, the internal network of a property is different to the supply network. If a shed or other structure is separate from the main dwelling, it’s unlikely a network extender can help here. In most cases it is better to connect a shed via a wireless bridge. This is a product we offer. See: Dish Extension | Lightwire Rural
